Rocky Mountain National Park is the fourth most visited national park in the U.S.
Located in Estes Park, Colorado.
As soon as you enter this park you will completely understand why it is so popular.
As we were at the entrance waiting to enter, a herd of 50+ elk crossed the road right in front of us…amazing to see!
The park is so popular that you need to sign up in advance to enter it.
Trail Ridge Road
The drive is not for the faint of heart as there are times when you are looking at a 500-foot drop with no guardrails in sight!!
The weather changes quickly as you drive up.
Lava Cliffs at Rocky Mountain
We stayed on Trail Ridge Road for the day…the park is so enormous that you would probably need 3-4 days to get a glimpse at everything.
We chose Trail Ridge as it takes you to the top where you can visit the Alpine Visitor Center at 11,796 feet above sea level.
When we were entering the park, this road was closed due to snow…while it was about 70 degrees at the entrance to the park.
Luckily, as we progressed through the park, the roads were plowed and re-opened for visitors.
Stops Along the Way
There are many places for you to stop along the way to take in the views.
King of the mountain???

Amazing views all the way up.
The Alpine Visitor Center
It took about 2 hours to reach the Alpine Visitor Center after a number of scenic stops.
Man, it was cold….39 degrees to be exact at 2:30 in the afternoon.
It’s a long way to the top…visiting the Alpine Center at 11,796 feet above sea level.
Bella & Frankie during a rare calm moment.
What our dog pics usually look like 🙂
Snow was still readily available.
It was a great day and we highly recommend that if you’re ever close by, come visit.
